It is amazing what you can find when you go out in Old Town Benidorm for a wander, and just like the song says “your in for a big surprise”. Ok, now I’ve got you all thinking I have stumbled on a secret bear watering hole, actually its much better than that, its H2O sauna.
Nestled half way up the Calle Tomas Ortuño, the discrete entrance is marked by a single tasteful sign. Once you have entered, you will find yourself in the bar area being greeted by one of the very friendly staff. H2O is English owned so you will not have any problems making yourself understood, but if you fancy flexing your linguistic skills you will find they are also very happy to communicate in Spanish as well.
H2O has recently had a major refurbishment and this is very evident from the excellent facilities available. After changing into the requisite towel the first port of call is the showers. Clean, good pressure and lashings of hot water, what more could you ask from a shower, and well stocked soap dispensers. Now the days grime is washed away you can set off on your quest of exploration.
The layout of H2O has been extremely well thought out and the facilities do seem to have a natural progression. Opposite the showers you will find a TV room, which has undergone a major change in the recent upgrade with a good sized flat screen TV which seems to be constantly showing some of those European Art House movies (wink, wink). Comfortable sofas line the walls to enhance the whole viewing experience. But lets assume you are looking for a little bit more of a pro active experience and for that we need to head down stairs.
The first thing that will go through your mind when you get to the bottom of the stairs is “wow its huge”. No, its not a remark about another guest, it’s a comment about the newly re-built Jacuzzi. Any bigger and you would have to call it a swimming pool. Great for those group get together with lots of bonding..... sorry my mind was just straying to post football match baths.
Down the corridor and past a couple of strategically placed rest rooms, you will come across the steam room and sauna. Both of these are of a good sized, well maintained and bracketed by a couple more rest rooms and a large dark room. I wonder what that is used for. I will have to find out later.
There is a very mixed cliental at H2O, something to suit every taste with a wide variety of nationalities. I certainly found some of them to be very friendly.
H2O is open every day from 2pm till late and one payment of 10€ will gain you entry for all of that day. They also offer a book-able massage service from their fully qualified masseur, 20€ for 40 minutes to 30€ for an hour.
So how would I sum up H2O, friendly, clean, good facilities and lots of fun, what more could you want.
