Apparently to be fit for military service in Spain you must have a penis. A 1989 regulation lists a number of illnesses which prohibit military service and included is the lack of a penis and or testicles.

This is causing a bit of a problem for a 28 year old transsexual from the village of Jaén. His lifetime dream has been to serve in the army and after being rejected in 2007 because of his lack of equipment, he has again presented himself for military service. ‘I want to be a soldier, not a porn star’, he said determined to make it clear he does not need a member to serve Spain.

Now I am the last to sign up to political correctness but this does seem to be taking the letter of the law a bit to far. What is the difference between this poor chap and someone who was born a woman?

Now I am sure I am not alone in the fact that I had an Action Man when I  was younger, and out of curiosity decided to see what filled his camouflage trousers. Need I say any more?

UPDATE: We are sorry to have to report that he was turned down again, but he vows to keep trying next year and the year after that and so on.

FURTHER UPDATE: The Spanish Ministry for Defense are currently completing the revision of the legislation of medical exclusions, under which someone could be rejected because of his lack of a penis or testicles.
